She has a bachelor’s degree in Arabic Literature at the Faculty of Arts at Cairo University (1969), a master’s degree in Arts (1974) and also a Doctorate in Arts (1980) from the same university. She is a professor at Literature Faculty at Cairo university. Her academic career advanced from teaching assistant to assistant lecturer, then lecturer, associate professor, and finally professor in the Department of Arabic Language at the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University (2001)

Cairo: Abu Al-Houl Lebanon Library) on which she worked for eight years, costing around 100,000 Egyptian pounds. The dictionary aims to collect and unify idiomatic expressions in Arabic, thereby contributing to the enhancement and development of the understanding of the Arabic language. It contains a wide variety of idiomatic expressions, along with explanations of their meanings, connotations, and origins in the Arab heritage. The dictionary is regarded as a valuable tool for researchers and scholars of the Arabic language, as it provides essential information on how the language is used in daily and cultural life. She is the first woman to be appointed as an expert at the Academy of the Arabic Language in Cairo. She is the only Egyptian woman selected as a corresponding member of the Academy of the Arabic Language in Damascus since 2002. She led a national scientific and media campaign to correct the offensive and distorted definition of the word “Arab” that appeared in Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary. She wrote the first dissertation applying computational methods to the Arabic language in 1974. She is the first Egyptian woman to compile and publish a dictionary, namely The Dictionary of Idiomatic Expressions in Contemporary Arabic. She received Cairo University’s Incentive Award and Appreciation Award in the Humanities and Social Sciences in 2003 and 2014. She received Cairo University’s Appreciation Award in the Humanities and Educational Sciences in 2013. She was awarded Cairo University’s Scientific Excellence Award in 2001
