GAL Lingüista, lexicógrafa e profesora. Doutorouse en Lingüística na Universidade de Yale, na que se centrou no estudo da lingua Ịjọ. Despois de investigar para a súa tese de doutoramento (1963), empezou a traballar como profesora de lingüística na Universidade de Ibadán (Nixeria). En 1972 converteuse en catedrática. Posteriormente trasladouse á Universidade de Port Harcourt (1977) e continuou a súa carreira no Departamento de Lingüística e Linguas Africanas. En 1984 estivo na Universidade de Leiden como profesora visitante. De 1990 a 1991 desempeñou o cargo de Decana da Escola de Posgrado da Universidade de Port Harcourt. Estivo tamén de profesora visitante no Wolfson College de Oxford no 1991. Despois da súa xubilación estivo contratada no Departamento de Lingüística e Comunicación da Universidade de Port Harcourt (entre o 2000 e o 2002) e, como colofón á súa carreira, foi nomeada “UNESCO Professor” de Patrimonio Cultural (2002), cargo que ocupou ata a súa morte. ENG Linguist, Lexicographer, Lecturer. She had her PhD in linguistics which focused on the Ịjọ language from Yale University. After getting her PhD, in 1963, she began working as a lecturer in Linguistics at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. In 1972, she became a Professor. She went to the University of Port Harcourt in 1977 and continued her career in the Department of Linguistics and African Languages. In 1984 she was a visiting scholar at the University of Leiden. She was the Dean of Graduate school at the University of Port Harcourt from 1990 to 1991. She was also a visiting Professor to Wolfson college, Oxford in 1991. After her retirement, she was a contracted Professor to the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies at the University of Port Harcourt (from 2000 to 2002). In 2002, she was appointed the UNESCO Professor of Cultural Heritage which she held until her death.
