A doutora Kristina Štrkalj Despot é unha lexicógrafa e lingüista croata cuxas principais liñas de investigación inclúen a lingüística cognitiva, a teoría da metáfora conceptual, a teoría neuronal da linguaxe, a semántica, a lexicografía, a sintaxe, a historia da lingua e a literatura croatas. Štrkalj Despot é vicedirectora do Instituto de Lingua e Lingüística Croatas, onde traballa desde 2003. Graduouse en 2002 e obtivo o título de doutora en 2007 na Facultade de Filosofía de Zagreb. Como bolseira posdoutoral Fulbright, estivo de 2011 a 2012 na Universidade de Berkeley (EE.UU.). Kristina Štrkalj Despot, PhD, is a Croatian lexicographer and linguist whose main lines of research include cognitive linguistics, theory of conceptual metaphor, neural theory of language, semantics, lexicography, syntax, history of Croatian language and literature. Štrkalj Despot holds the position of a Vice Director at the Institute for the Croatian Language and Linguistics, where she has been employed since the year 2003. Her academic qualifications include a graduation year of 2002, and the attainment of her doctorate in 2007 from the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. As a distinguished Fulbright postdoctoral fellow, she spent a period from 2011 to 2012 at the University of Berkeley, USA.

Foi unha das autoras da monografía Croatian Medieval Poetry, que é a primeira crestomatía completa e monografía de textos medievais croatas escritos en verso entre os séculos XIV e XVI en latín antigo, glagolítico croata e cirílico croata. Publicou dúas novelas: Težina (Dureza), Zagreb: Profil, 2003, e Odjel Babinjače (Maternidade), Zagreb: Profil, 2008, e varios libros infantís. Recibiu os seguintes premios: 2014 - Premio Nacional Croata de Investigación e Educación “Ivan Filipović” 2010 - Premio Académico Nacional da República de Croacia 2010 - Premio “Judita” da Sociedade Croata de Escritores She was one of the authors of the monograph Croatian Medieval Poetry, which the first complete chrestomathy and monograph of Croatian medieval texts written in verse during the period of 14th-6th centuries, in Old Latin, Croatian Glagolitic and Croatian Cyrillic scripts. She has published two novels: Težina (Hardness), Zagreb: Profil, 2003, and Odjel Babinjače (Maternity Department), Zagreb: Profil 2008, and several books for children.
