This application searches for indexed forms in published volumes of the Atlas Lingüístico Galego. You can perform searches of all forms occurring in answers (by selecting “Forms”) or search for items occurring in the texts of names of atlas maps (be selecting “Map titles”). Word forms given in phonetic transcription in the published volumes of the Atlas have been converted to standard spelling to facilitate searching. The spelling <gh> is used in accordance with the conventions established in the print volumes.
Search strings may include asterisks (*) or questions marks (?) as wildcards. An asterisk stands for any sequence of characters at the beginning or end of an item, e.g. man* will find all words starting with man- (such as man, manco, manicho, etc.). A question mark stands for a single character, e.g. ?ela finds all four-letter words that end in –ela (such as dela, pela, vela, etc.). Search results can be sorted by any of the fields shown in the headings. They can be saved as files in Excel format (*.xls).
This application can also used to obtain an ordered list of all the maps contained in each volume of the Atlas.
The Atlas Lingüístico Galego (ALGa) is a project of the Instituto da Lingua Galega at the University of Santiago de Compostela in collaboration with the General Secretariat for Linguistic Policy and the Pedro Barrié de la Maza Foundation. It is published in book form with assistance from the Pedro Barrié de la Maza Foundation. Five volumes have been published to date: Verb morphology; Non-verbal morphology; Phonetics; Lexicon (time and weather); and Lexicon (the human being I). The data comprising the basis of ALGa come from surveys performed in 167 locations in Galicia, Asturias and Castilla y León from 1974 to 1976. The questionnaire used in the surveys includes questions on phonetics, morphology, syntax and the lexicon.
